Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Attorney to provide legal counsel and litigation support related to the regulation of healthcare professionals serving rural communities throughout Tennessee.
The attorney will handle disciplinary matters involving healthcare licensees, work closely with investigators and subject-matter consultants, negotiate resolutions, and represent the organization in administrative proceedings before healthcare licensing boards.
The role requires strong litigation skills, excellent written and verbal communication, the ability to manage a substantial caseload, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the organization in administrative law proceedings before various healthcare licensing boards.
- Review complaints and investigations involving healthcare professionals.
- Work closely with investigators and licensing board consultants throughout investigations and case reviews.
- Evaluate cases and determine appropriate legal action.
- Negotiate settlements and resolutions with healthcare licensees when violations are identified.
- Handle all aspects of litigation for cases requiring formal disciplinary action, including:
- Discovery
- Motion practice
- Hearings
- Trials
- Prepare legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs, and other correspondence.
- Effectively manage and prioritize a robust caseload across various stages of litigation.
- Provide legal advice and support on special projects as assigned.
- Assist with legislative initiatives, including bill analysis related to healthcare delivery.
- Collaborate with internal teams, investigators, consultants, and other legal professionals.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD/J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active Tennessee Bar admission and license in good standing.
- Demonstrated litigation experience, including trial experience.
- Strong understanding of administrative/legal proceedings.
- Ability to independently manage a large and complex caseload.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn complex legal and regulatory matters.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of relevant legal experience preferred.
- Experience with administrative law, professional licensing, healthcare law, regulatory matters, or disciplinary proceedings is highly desirable.
- Experience representing clients before professional licensing or regulatory boards is a plus.
- Legislative research or bill-analysis experience is a plus.

Important Contract Information
- This is a 37.5-hour/week contract position.
- The position is not eligible for state employee benefits.
- The selected candidate must obtain and maintain professional liability insurance prior to the start date.
- Candidates must be current Tennessee residents.
- Candidates relocating to Tennessee must establish Tennessee residency before their start date.
- Weekly in-office work is required.
