Electrical Engineer — Capital Equipment & Industrial Automation
Location: Northeast Wisconsin (on-site) · Type: Full-time, exempt (Direct Hire)
The opportunity:
We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of an established manufacturer of custom capital equipment serving the industrial automation market. Their machines are engineered to order, which means no two projects look the same and no engineer spends their career maintaining someone else's legacy design.
This is a role for an electrical engineer who wants ownership. You'll take machines from a blank slate through schematic design, build, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning... and then watch them run in production. If you've been boxed into one narrow slice of the design cycle, this is the opposite of that.

What you'll do
Design and development
- Design electrical systems, circuits, panels, and components for custom capital equipment and automation systems
- Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and specifications to applicable standards and customer requirements
- Select and specify components and devices based on application requirements, performance, reliability, safety, cost, and lead time
- Support integration of motors, drives, sensors, instrumentation, power distribution, safety circuits, and control devices
Build, test, and commission
- Participate in prototype development, equipment assembly, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, and start-up
- Perform electrical calculations, design reviews, testing, and validation against functional, performance, quality, and safety requirements
- Troubleshoot systems and equipment using engineering principles, technical documentation, diagnostic tools, and structured problem-solving
Support and improvement
- Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, service, customers, and suppliers, resolving production and field issues with practical solutions
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, manufacturability, safety, and cost
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, test records, and change orders
Project leadership
- Manage assigned engineering projects: define requirements, build schedules, coordinate resources, and communicate status
- Stay current on relevant technologies, components, and industry practices, and bring forward the ones worth adopting
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
- Five or more years of relevant experience preferred: capital equipment, industrial automation, plastics converting, or a comparable manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with electrical design software; experience with tools such as SolidWorks Electrical and/or DraftSight is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the judgment to diagnose complex issues and commit to a solution
- Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications
- Clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
- Solid project management and organizational skills
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
Work environment
Modern, climate-controlled, secure-entry facilities with low noise levels and a genuine safety-first culture. The role splits time between an engineering workstation and the manufacturing floor, so you'll need the mobility to inspect equipment: bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and standing or walking for stretches: and the willingness to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and hard hats. Expect moderate exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and varying temperatures typical of a production environment.

Pay: $77,309.04 - $106,286.16 per year
