The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas serves more than seven million residents in 100 counties that encompass nearly 96,000 square miles in northern and western Texas. The District headquarters office is located in Dallas with branch offices in Abilene, Amarillo, Fort Worth and Lubbock. Assistant US Attorney's prosecute federal crimes - from acts of terrorism, public corruption, gang and violent crime, drug distribution conspiracies, Criminal and Civil immigration to various other criminal acts. We bring cases referred to us by a number of law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, ATF, DEA, and other federal, state, and local law enforcement. We also represent various federal agencies in civil lawsuits.

Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

This is a TERM appointment not-to-exceed September 30th, 2029. This position may NOT be extended or made permanent without further competition.

Job Description

The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) will serve in the Criminal or Civil Division of the Dallas office. The position currently being filled will investigate and prosecute cases involving illegal immigration, illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings, and targeting the Cartels and Transitional Criminal Organizations designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs). Duties to be performed:

- Partner with federal, state, and local law enforcement to manage criminal investigations and prosecutions brought in the federal courts in the Northern District of Texas.

- Advise federal agents on questions of law and Departmental policy.

- Recommend charging decisions and proposes dispositions with regard to assigned cases.

- Research and draft all legal pleadings and be prepared to try cases in federal court.

- Investigate and pursue asset forfeiture related to prosecutions.

- Oversee and coordinate the preparation of litigation assignments for legal support staff.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

- Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree and must have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

- United States citizenship is required.

- Be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction)

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants must possess superior oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills. Applicants must demonstrate a quick analytical ability and the facility to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues involved with a case. The desired candidate will possess a solid foundation of functional skills, allowing them to hit the ground running and have the ability to solve problems independently. They will be reliable, supportive, willing to share credit, while actively contributing ideas to the work product. Applicants must also demonstrate excellent computer literacy skills to include experience with automated research on the Internet, electronic court filing, and electronic e-mail and word processing systems. Applicants will be expected to do their own legal research and writing and will be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings.

The ideal candidate will have at least two to three years of post J.D. experience.

Salary

Salary Information:

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $83,435.00 to $162,000.00 which includes 27.26% locality pay.
