About The Role

Support Worker – HMP Wymott

Salary - £25,557 - £29,723 per annum

Our team is expanding, and we are looking for a Substance Misuse Support Worker to join our growing service at HMP Wymott. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within substance misuse, while gaining exposure to a wider multi‑disciplinary team in a unique and supportive healthcare environment.

We are looking for someone with substance misuse experience and knowledge of current issues within the pathway.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will support a range of clinical and operational activities, including:

- Running and supporting healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)

- Supporting the Substance Misuse Nurse with all aspects of care

- Working in reception (Early Days in Custody), carrying out basic health assessments and blood‑borne virus screening

- Assist in urine drug testing

- Support the wider non-clinical team on our Therapeutic Community wing, co-facilitating groups, and supporting health promotion and wellbeing initiatives

- Working collaboratively with nurses, GPs, and wider healthcare professionals

What We’re Looking For

- Experience within a substance misuse role

- Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care

- Clinical skills such as bloods (venepuncture) are desirable but not essential

- Knowledge of substance misuse / mental health issues

- A resilient, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to patient care

- Ability to work effectively in a secure and fast‑paced environment

About HMP Wymott

HMP Wymott is a large, Category C prison in Leyland, accommodating approximately 1,200 adult males, and we have a varied and complex population. Practice Plus Group provides primary care, mental health and substance misuse services across the wings, clinic areas, inpatient facilities, and reception services.

Working Pattern

Hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:00 / 09:00 - 17:00.
