UVA SoM Research Histology Core is looking for Lab and Research Technician 1 or Lab and Research Technician 2. This position will support operation of Research Histology Core, order supplies, perform routine laboratory operations, keep records and coordinate schedules with Core customers.

Duties Include

- Perform similar duties to Lab and Research Aide, such as collecting specimens, setting up and performing experiments of a repetitive nature; and preparing , chemicals, reagents, and solutions as instructed.

- At direction of Director or senior staff, perform routine stains, manage chemical waste, prepare buffers

- Operate, adjust, and maintain specific scientific apparatuses and instruments.

- Order lab supplies and maintain inventory.

- Record accurate information and logs of experimental data.

- Keep informed of new lab techniques.

- Provide routine, technical, and administrative support to the Director.

- May contact and coordinate schedules with study customers, handle information intake, and record and track results. May provide logistical support to the study.

- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Lab and Research Technician 1

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

- Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience required.

Lab and Research Technician 2

- Education: Associate's degree required; may accept equivalent combination of experience, education, certification in lieu of degree.

- Experience: 2+ years of lab experience which may include student experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a clinical or research laboratory, with a solid understanding of laboratory skills, procedures and safety practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, is preferred.

Anticipated Salary Range: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour.

Physical Demands: This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals and requires the ability to lift a 5 gallon container. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.

- This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
