AI Engineer – SAS to Snowflake Migration

Job Overview
We are looking for experienced AI Engineers to support a major data and analytics transformation initiative involving the migration of SAS workloads, data processes, and analytical capabilities to Snowflake.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in AI/ML, Python, data engineering, SAS, and Snowflake. You will work closely with data architects, engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to modernise existing SAS-based analytical workloads and enable advanced AI and machine learning capabilities on the Snowflake platform.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring the ability to understand existing SAS workloads and translate or modernise them into scalable Snowflake-based solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and understand existing SAS programs, workflows, data pipelines, and analytical processes.
- Support the migration and modernisation of SAS-based workloads to Snowflake.
- Develop and implement AI and Machine Learning solutions using modern cloud and data platforms.
- Translate SAS-based data transformation and analytical logic into Snowflake and Python-based solutions.
- Develop scalable data pipelines and analytical workflows on Snowflake.
- Build and deploy AI/ML models where required as part of the modernisation initiative.
- Work with Data Architects and Snowflake Architects to design scalable and high-performing solutions.
- Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks between legacy SAS and Snowflake environments.
- Optimise data processing, SQL queries, and Snowflake workloads.
- Support testing and validation of migrated applications and analytical processes.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand existing SAS processes and transformation requirements.
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve existing analytical workflows using AI and Machine Learning.
- Document migration approaches, technical designs, and implementation processes.
Mandatory Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience as an AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, Data Engineer, or similar role.
- Hands-on experience with AI and Machine Learning technologies.
- Strong programming experience in Python.
- Experience working with Snowflake.
- Experience with data engineering, data pipelines, and data transformation.
- Experience understanding or working with SAS-based data and analytical workloads.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Experience with data migration and modernisation projects.
- Strong understanding of data validation, reconciliation, and data quality.
- Ability to analyse legacy systems and translate business and technical logic into modern data platforms.
Highly Desirable Skills
- Direct experience with SAS to Snowflake migration or modernisation.
- Experience converting SAS code into Python, SQL, or Snowflake-based solutions.
- Experience with Snowpark.
- Experience with Snowflake ML or AI capabilities.
- Experience with Databricks or other modern AI/ML platforms.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and orchestration tools.
- Experience deploying machine learning models into production environments.
- Knowledge of MLOps and model lifecycle management.
- Experience working with large enterprise data and analytics environments.
