We are seeking an experienced CNC Machine Shop Manager to lead day-to-day machining operations in a high-precision aerospace manufacturing environment.

This position requires a strong combination of technical machining knowledge, leadership, production management, and problem-solving ability. The ideal candidate has significant hands-on experience with CNC milling and turning and is comfortable supporting complex work involving 5-axis machining, live tooling, mill-turn operations, tight-tolerance aerospace components, and difficult materials such as Inconel, titanium, stainless steels, and other nickel-based or high-performance alloys.

The Machine Shop Manager will be responsible for ensuring that jobs are properly staffed, scheduled, set up, machined, inspected, and completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer and quality requirements.

This is not strictly an administrative management position. The successful candidate must be technically capable of working with machinists, programmers, quality personnel, and manufacturing leadership to troubleshoot difficult jobs and improve manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage daily CNC machining operations across milling, turning, 5-axis, and mill-turn equipment.

- Assign personnel and machines based on employee skill level, equipment capability, job complexity, and delivery requirements.

- Establish daily and weekly production priorities to support customer delivery schedules.

- Monitor job progress and identify potential schedule, tooling, quality, or capacity problems before they affect delivery.

- Coordinate closely with programming, quality, purchasing, engineering, and management.

- Maintain an organized, professional, and accountable shop-floor environment.

- Conduct production meetings and communicate priorities clearly to machinists and programmers.

- Balance available labor and machine capacity across multiple simultaneous jobs

Personnel Management

- Supervise CNC machinists, setup machinists, programmers, operators, and other manufacturing personnel.

- Establish clear performance expectations and hold employees accountable for quality, productivity, attendance, and workmanship.

- Identify employee training needs and develop machinists into progressively higher-skilled positions.

- Cross-train employees across machines and manufacturing processes where appropriate.

- Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and employee development.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Minimum 8–10 years of CNC machining experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, energy, medical, or another high-precision manufacturing environment.

- Minimum 3–5 years of leadership, supervisory, lead-machinist, or manufacturing management experience.

- Strong hands-on knowledge of CNC turning and CNC milling.

- Experience with complex multi-operation machining.

- Strong understanding of machining fundamentals, cutting tools, workholding, speeds and feeds, and process troubleshooting.

- Ability to read and interpret complex aerospace drawings and GD&T.

- Experience producing close-tolerance components.

- Experience machining difficult materials such as Inconel, titanium, stainless steel, or similar alloys.

- Strong understanding of first-piece inspection and in-process inspection practices.

- Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing problems methodically rather than relying solely on trial and error.

- Strong communication and personnel-management skills.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-mix, low-to-medium-volume manufacturing environment.
