About the Role
Manchester Portland Hotel is seeking an experienced and hands on Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance function across our beautiful historic hotel and estate.This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional with previous experience working in heritage, listed or historic properties. Due to the age and character of the building, we are looking for someone who understands the unique challenges involved in maintaining an older property while ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance and guest satisfaction.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day maintenance of the hotel, managing planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring statutory compliance, and leading the maintenance team to deliver an exceptional environment for both guests and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all day to day maintenance operations across the hotel and estate.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance programmes.
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues and guest requests.
- Maintain the historic building and grounds to a high standard while preserving the character of the property.
- Ensure full compliance with all health and safety legislation and statutory requirements.
- Oversee contractors and ensure all works are completed safely and to a high standard.
- Manage maintenance budgets and control expenditure.
- Ensure accurate maintenance records, compliance documentation and service schedules are maintained.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest bedrooms, public areas, plant rooms and back of house areas.
- Work closely with all hotel departments to minimise disruption to guests.
- Lead, motivate and develop the maintenance team.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager within a hotel environment.
- Proven experience working with heritage, listed or historic buildings is essential.
- Strong knowledge of building maintenance, mechanical and electrical systems.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety legislation and statutory compliance.
- Experience managing contractors and planned maintenance programmes.
- Good problem solving and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload in a fast paced hospitality environment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Flexible approach and willingness to support operational requirements when needed.
Desirable Qualifications
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
- Electrical, plumbing or mechanical trade qualification.
- Knowledge of fire safety systems, water hygiene, HVAC and compliance requirements.
