About the role
HENSOLDT South Africa Optronics is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Configuration Specialist to join our Engineering Enablement team.
The Configuration Specialist will provide configuration management support across the product lifecycle, ensuring that product configuration data, technical documentation, engineering changes and configuration baselines remain accurate, controlled and traceable.
The role works across engineering development, production and customer support programmes and plays an important part in maintaining product configuration integrity and ensuring compliance with contractual, quality, regulatory and business requirements. The successful candidate will also provide specialist support for relevant SAP processes and data.
Qualifications and experience
Minimum National Diploma or equivalent technical qualification in Engineering, Configuration Management, Technical Data Management or a related technical field.
5+ years' relevant experience in Configuration Management, Product Data Management (PDM) or a similar engineering support environment, preferably within the aerospace and defence industry.
Experience supporting engineering development, production and customer support programmes.
Strong understanding of configuration management principles, engineering change control, product structures and technical documentation.
Experience working within a quality-managed and regulated engineering environment will be advantageous.
Demonstrated expert-level knowledge and practical experience of SAP, including SAP master data, configuration, troubleshooting and user support.

Key responsibilities
Configuration Management
Develop and maintain configuration management plans, processes and standards across the product lifecycle to ensure the effective control of product configuration information, resulting in data integrity, contractual compliance and successful programme delivery.
Configuration Identification and Control
Establish and maintain product identification, configuration baselines and engineering change controls throughout the product lifecycle. Ensure approved changes are properly evaluated, implemented and traceable to maintain accurate and controlled product configurations.
Configuration Status Accounting
Maintain and report configuration records, baselines, engineering changes and product status across relevant programmes and products to ensure complete and current configuration information, supporting traceability and informed business decision-making.
Configuration Auditing and Compliance
Coordinate and conduct configuration audits, documentation reviews and governance activities against customer, contractual and organisational requirements. Verify product configurations and address non-conformances to maintain configuration integrity and demonstrate compliance.
Configuration Operations, Systems and Continuous Improvement
Support and improve configuration management operations, including documentation, SAP procedures, user support, training and first-level issue resolution. Promote consistent processes, system effectiveness and compliance to improve operational efficiency and support continuous improvement.
