JOB DESCRIPTION
Designs and implements technical solutions within either Applications or Infrastructure, including cloud, compute, storage, and database systems. Works closely with engineering, development, and operations teams to ensure technology solutions align with business needs, IT standards, and operational requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs technical solutions that align with business needs and IT best practices. Ensures high availability, performance, and scalability of designed systems. Provides hands-on technical leadership for solution implementation. Supports system optimization, automation, and process improvement initiatives. Collaborates with IT teams to resolve architecture-related challenges. Designs and develops scalable, secure, and high-performing IT solutions. Ensures solutions align with business needs, industry standards, and county policies. Works with stakeholders to define functional and non-functional requirements. Ensures seamless data exchange across departments and external agencies. Assists in cloud migration initiatives and hybrid system architectures. Ensures system availability and reliability by implementing disaster recovery strategies. Collaborates with database administrators to optimize data flows and storage solutions. Provides guidance on DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation. Ensures compliance with enterprise architecture standards and IT security policies. Documents solution architectures, system designs, and integration patterns. Participates in system troubleshooting and performance tuning efforts. Assists in vendor evaluations and recommend third-party technology solutions. Works with IT teams to standardize deployment and infrastructure automation. Develops architectural blueprints, roadmaps, and technical documentation. Optimizes IT system performance, security, and scalability. Designs integration strategies for applications, cloud platforms, and data systems. Evaluates and recommends new technologies that align with county goals. Ensures IT solutions are compliant with cybersecurity best practices. Ensures IT solutions are cost-effective and align with budgetary goals. Performs capacity planning to support IT growth and scalability. Develops technical blueprints, workflows, and diagrams for new solutions. Ensures solutions are modular, scalable, and secure to meet future demands. Works with business analysts and developers to refine functional and technical requirements. Contributes to enterprise-wide architecture discussions and decision-making. Develops API strategies and implements middleware solutions for system communication. Works with IT teams to standardize system configurations and improve interoperability. Identifies and recommends improvements in system design and performance. Conducts post-implementation reviews to refine best practices. Implements monitoring and logging best practices to enhance visibility into IT systems. Maintains architecture standards and ensures proper documentation. Optimizes cloud resource utilization and on-premises infrastructure efficiency. Monitors application performance, databases, and network traffic. Implements automation tools to improve IT service delivery and reduce downtime. Works with DevOps teams to streamline IT operations and deployments. Develops performance dashboards and monitoring tools. Stays updated on emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry trends. Conducts proof-of-concept (PoC) evaluations for new technologies. Recommends innovative solutions to improve IT service delivery. Works with vendors and technology partners to explore new IT opportunities. Mentors junior engineers and developers on architecture principles and design patterns. Provides technical training sessions and knowledge-sharing workshops. Collaborates with senior architects to define teamwide architecture frameworks. Promotes a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. Works closely with IT teams, business leaders, and vendors to align solutions. Acts as a subject matter expert for technology strategy and system design. Supports IT project teams in defining architectural requirements. Guides teams on best practices for software development and infrastructure management. Participates in Agile and DevOps methodologies to streamline deployments. Provides technical mentorship to engineers and junior architects. Acts as a liaison between IT operations and business users for technical solutions. Ensures knowledge-sharing and documentation for IT architecture decisions. Works with IT and business stakeholders to align technical solutions with strategic goals. Participates in cross-functional discussions to ensure seamless integration of IT systems. Acts as a liaison between technical teams and business leaders. Assists in presenting solution architectures and recommendations to IT leadership. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and Training: Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a job-related field of study. Four (4) years of related experience in IT solution architecture, system integration, or enterprise application development. Certifications (Preferred): • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Professional Cloud Architect. • TOGAF Certification (Enterprise Architecture). • ITIL Certification (IT Service Management). • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent security certification. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article II, Subdivision II of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code. “Individuals holding or considered for a position which has, or may have, access to criminal justice databases including the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems, NCIC/TCIC and similar databases, must pass a national fingerprint-based records check prior to placement in such position and may be denied placement in such positions and/or access to such systems. Physical/Environmental Requirements: Occasional travel to County sites, vendor meetings, conferences, and industry events. Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving technology environment.
