Overview
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Travel Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry (Tele) units. Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients on medical-surgical and telemetry units, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment plans.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, injections, and medication management aligned with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for thorough documentation of patient care activities.
- Conduct detailed patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations to identify changes in patient condition promptly.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate discharge planning, case management, and post-acute care strategies.
- Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization, ventilator management, and ostomy care when required.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic technique and proper specimen collection/processing procedures.
- Provide education on health coaching topics including pain management, geriatrics care, dementia care, or family planning as appropriate.
- Support triage activities by evaluating patient needs in urgent or emergency situations within hospital or outpatient settings.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and NCQA standards while maintaining accurate medical records and documentation.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or similar platforms for efficient documentation.
- Extensive critical care experience including ICU or Level I/II trauma center exposure; familiarity with trauma medicine and acute pain management.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics (including memory care), neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP), and individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities.
- Skilled in advanced nursing procedures such as IV insertion/infusion, tube feeding management, laboratory specimen collection/processing, and sterile processing techniques.
- Ability to perform complex assessments involving vital signs monitoring and respiratory support including ventilator management.
- Knowledge of infection control practices aligned with CDC guidelines; experience in infection prevention strategies is a plus.
- Familiarity with hospital medicine protocols across various specialties such as cardiology (cardiac catheterization), infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine or occupational health.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams; experience in teaching hospital environments is advantageous.
- Capable of managing high-pressure situations involving trauma medicine or emergency response procedures; Level I/II trauma center experience preferred.
