The Network and Connectivity Engineering (NCE) Team within CAS Engineering has the responsibility Air Traffic Control and Airline operational data on a secure, high-availability communication system between aircraft and their airline hosts systems and Civil Aviation Authorities. This worldwide communication system consists of diverse technologies including RF, private WAN networking, Network Management, Data Analytics, Embedded Communication Protocols, Mobility management algorithms, and High Availability/Disaster Recovery solutions. Over the next 5 years the GlobaLink Team, working in a highly hybrid collaborative environment that fosters employee engagement and teamwork, will be engineering the modernization and overhaul of the world’s largest Air-to-Ground airline operation and air traffic communication system.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to support our aviation communication development needs. The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for leading small software teams in developing the software architecture and development plans, performing project estimations, troubleshooting, interfacing with other software teams as well as the systems design and test teams, and integrating other teams’ work.
From system requirements, determine the appropriate software architecture and designs for a complex, high-availability system, and prepare design review material for the review team. Develop robust, scalable, performance driven software to be deployed on large scale communication system components while following established development practices and processes. Improve code quality by conducting software integration, verification, and performing code reviews. This is an ideal role for anyone who enjoys leading software solutions and/or is interested in a leadership role in in the future.?YOU will play a pivotal role in this high growth and high visibility area of the Collins Aerospace company.
What YOU Will Do
- You will perform full life-cycle software development including designing system and software solutions; supporting implementation, integration, acceptance testing and deployment.
- You will lead highly technical software engineering teams on challenging software upgrades and features.
- You will provide analysis for the decomposition of technical system level requirements into sub-system software requirements and design.
- You will support a large-scale global aviation network infrastructure with heavy design focus in redundancy, high availability, and security.
- You will develop software for air-ground/ground-ground communication, positional data processing, transport/routing/link layer protocols, radio interfaces, hardware/OS customization, and remote deployment capabilities.
- You will collaborate closely with system engineering/performance, network engineering, system acceptance and field operation teams.
- You will provide support for product deployment, field monitoring, troubleshooting and operator trainings.
- You will participate in lab/field integration and industry activities with avionics vendors, Satellite Service Providers, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) from domestic US, Europe and Asia.
- You will utilize a mature ISO/SEI CMMI compliant process to produce all work products.
- You will support project leadership, project planning, execution, monitoring and closure activities.
- You will develop technical product roadmaps depicting the steps anticipated to migrate from the current state to the targeted future state.

Education & Experience
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
Skills You Must Have

- Ability to create an architectural vision and successfully lead a team in its implementation.
- Strong understanding of architecture design principles and governance.
- Prior experience as a software architect for a real-time embedded system.
- Experience with software architecture tools and techniques.
- Experience with a variety of messaging and communication protocols.
- Experience with High-Availability systems.
