Summary Of Position
The Vice President of Operations is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the President. This position is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing floor operations, production workflow, people management, and general operations of the circuit board manufacturing facility. The VP of Operations ensures the efficient, safe, and high-quality production of printed circuit boards (PCBs) by aligning day-to-day manufacturing activities with company strategic goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee all manufacturing floor operations including PCB fabrication, SMT, assembly, wave solder, and electrical test.
- Develop and manage production scheduling, capacity planning, and workflow to meet on-time delivery commitments.
- Lead, mentor, and develop department managers, supervisors, and production staff across all shifts.
- Foster a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all ESD, FOD, environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste and improve throughput.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) including on-time delivery, first-pass yield, scrap rate, and OEE.
- Ensure all production processes adhere to IPC standards (IPC-A-600, IPC-6012, IPC-A-610) and customer quality requirements.
- Partner with the Quality team to investigate non-conformances, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Oversee procurement, inventory management, and supplier relationships to ensure materials availability while minimizing excess inventory.
- Own the operations budget including labor, materials, and capital expenditures; identify and execute cost reduction opportunities.
- Evaluate and recommend investments in new equipment, technology, and process improvements to support business growth.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and customer program ramp-ups in coordination with Engineering and Sales teams.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and AS9100 certification requirements as applicable.
- Complete required documentation relating to business, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment.
- Perform other tasks and duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field required; advanced degree (MBA or M.S.) a plus.
- 8+ years of progressive manufacturing or operations management experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Direct experience in PCB fabrication, PCB assembly (PCBA), or electronics manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of IPC industry standards, ISO 9001, and quality management systems; AS9100 experience a plus.
- Familiarity with PCB manufacturing processes including SMT, wave solder, etching, drilling, plating, and electrical test.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and data-driven production management.
- Proven track record implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement programs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, engineering drawings, process instructions, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively engage employees, peers, and executive leadership.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; high attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and lead through influence.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Experience with ESD control, FOD prevention, and general shop floor safety practices.
