Role Description The Director of Estimating is a full-time, on-site position based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, responsible for leading the estimating function for PPI Unlimited’s construction projects. This role oversees the preparation of detailed bids and proposals, including quantity takeoffs, cost analyses, and pricing strategies for stucco, framing, drywall, and paint scopes. The Director of Estimating collaborates closely with project management, operations, and leadership teams to align estimates with production capabilities, schedules, and client requirements. Daily activities include reviewing project plans and specifications, managing the estimating team, maintaining cost databases, and interfacing with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive, accurate pricing. The role also contributes to process improvement, risk assessment, and strategic planning to support sustainable growth and profitability.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in Project Estimation and Cost Management, including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
- Strong skills in Construction Management and Project Management, with experience coordinating estimates with field operations and scheduling.
- Proficiency in Budgeting and financial forecasting for construction projects, ensuring alignment with company margin and cash flow goals.
- Experience leading and mentoring estimating teams, with the ability to establish standards, workflows, and best practices.
- Advanced knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and building codes relevant to stucco, framing, drywall, and paint work.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with estimating software and tools, as well as MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with industry-specific platforms is a plus.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal stakeholders, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Previous senior-level estimating experience in commercial or multifamily construction; South Florida market experience is highly beneficial.
