Landfill Manager – Environmental & Waste Operations

The Role:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced environmental or waste management professional to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of an operational landfill facility in the Cavan region. The Landfill Manager will oversee site operations, environmental compliance, monitoring and reporting, while ensuring the facility continues to operate safely and in accordance with its environmental licence and relevant waste legislation. This would suit someone with a strong background in waste management, environmental compliance, licensed facilities, wastewater treatment or environmental site operations who is comfortable taking ownership of an operational facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day environmental and operational activities of the landfill facility.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with the site's environmental licence, waste legislation and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and oversee environmental monitoring programmes, including groundwater, surface water, leachate, landfill gas and other relevant parameters.
- Maintain environmental records, operational documentation and compliance data.
- Prepare and contribute to environmental, regulatory and operational reports.
- Liaise with environmental regulators, laboratories, contractors and other external stakeholders.
- Coordinate waste acceptance and ensure appropriate waste management procedures are followed.
- Oversee leachate, wastewater and water-quality management requirements.
- Support environmental audits, inspections and regulatory site visits.
- Identify environmental or operational issues and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure site procedures, SOPs, risk assessments and environmental controls remain appropriate and up to date.
- Coordinate contractors and specialist service providers working at the facility.
- Support health, safety, environmental and quality requirements across site operations.
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate is likely to have:
- A degree or relevant qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Waste Management, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within environmental management, waste management, landfill operations, wastewater treatment or another regulated industrial/site environment.
- Strong understanding of environmental compliance and monitoring.
- Experience working with environmental licences, permits and/or regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of waste legislation and environmental reporting requirements.
- Experience liaising with regulators, local authorities or other government bodies.
- Strong organisational and reporting skills with the ability to maintain accurate environmental and operational records.
- Confidence working independently and taking responsibility for the environmental performance of an operational site.
- A full driving licence would be advantageous.
