Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Firmware Engineer role based in San Francisco, CA. The Firmware Engineer will design, implement, and maintain embedded software for privacy-centric hardware devices, including low-level drivers, communication protocols, and system integration. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and testing firmware for ARM-based platforms, performing debugging and optimization, collaborating with electrical engineers on board bring-up, and ensuring reliable interaction between hardware and software. The role also involves participating in code reviews, contributing to system architecture decisions, documenting technical designs, and working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, robust products aligned with Deveillance’s privacy mission.
Qualifications
- Strong embedded software skills, including Embedded Software development and general Software Development for resource-constrained systems.
- Proficiency in debugging complex embedded systems, using tools and techniques for firmware analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Experience with ARM Architecture, including ARM-based microcontrollers, toolchains, and low-level programming.
- Foundational knowledge of Electrical Engineering concepts relevant to firmware–hardware integration, such as schematics, interfaces, and board bring-up.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS), communication buses (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART), and hardware security or secure boot concepts is beneficial.
- Ability to collaborate in an on-site, cross-functional environment, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in privacy, security, and building technology that protects individuals and organizations from unwanted surveillance.
