The project involves building an open-source plugin that enables data teams to define BigQuery graph databases using a simple configuration file and deploy them through dbt, a standard data pipeline tool.
The role combines dbt development, graph data modeling, semantic and metric modeling research, and CI/CD automation. The project also includes researching and comparing competitive products and technologies, including Looker, dbt, Snowflake, and Databricks.
Responsibilities:
- Research and compare the semantic and metric modeling capabilities of Looker, dbt (MetricFlow), Snowflake, and Databricks.
- Deliver a prioritized backlog of BigQuery measure features.
- Build a repository of real-world samples and direct source links.
- Build, publish, and maintain an open-source dbt package library to introduce BigQuery Graph as a dbt materialization.
- Develop reference CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.
- Create pipelines that parse, validate, and deploy BigQuery graphs defined in declarative YAML formats.
- Create high-quality developer documentation, reference implementations, and tutorials.
- Support community adoption of BigQuery Graphs and Measures.
- Research competitive products and technologies related to semantic and metric modeling.
Job requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python packaging, testing (pytest), and validation.

- Deep production experience with Google Cloud BigQuery.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to research complex technical specifications and translate findings into structured backlogs and architectural designs.
Desired Skills
- Hands-on experience with metric/semantic layers, such as LookML, dbt MetricFlow, Cube, or Snowflake/Databricks metric features.
- Experience with Property Graph queries, ISO GQL, SQL, or graph database engines.
- Experience with CI/CD tools.
