Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Full Time / $15.00hr

Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community-based settings. The DSP promotes independence, personal growth, health, safety, and community inclusion while assisting individuals with daily living activities and implementing individualized support plans. Reports to the Program Coordinator.

Essential Responsibilities

- Provide direct support and supervision to individuals receiving services.

- Assist with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, and household tasks.

- Support individuals in achieving goals outlined in their Individual Support Plans and Behavior Support Plans.

- Facilitate community participation, recreational activities, and skill-building opportunities.

- Administer medications and maintain required documentation in accordance with agency policies and state regulations.

- Observe, document, and report changes in health, behavior, or other significant events.

- Ensure the health, safety, dignity, and rights of all individuals served.

- Maintain accurate documentation, incident reports, and service records.

- Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, healthcare professionals, and other team members.

- Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

- Must be at least 18 years of age.

- High school diploma or GED required.

- One year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, healthcare, child care, behavioral health, or related settings preferred.

- Valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

- Ability to successfully complete required background screenings.

- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications and training, including:

- CPR/First Aid

- Medication Administration

- Professional Crisis Management (PCM) or equivalent

- Required behavior support training

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Ability to work effectively with individuals with developmental disabilities and their support networks.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Strong organizational and time management skills.

- Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals safely using approved techniques.

- Ability to kneel, bend, stand, and move frequently throughout the workday.

- Ability to implement crisis intervention and safety procedures when necessary.

- Ability to perform all essential job functions in residential and community settings.
