About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Full Stack Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will define the technical direction and scale Mattermost’s core web platform, primarily focusing on supporting teams operating within defense and critical infrastructure sectors. You will lead architectural decisions and drive the technical strategy across our Go backend and React/TypeScript frontend, collaborating with multiple engineering teams to deliver features that meet stringent security, compliance, and reliability standards.
This position requires an innovative mindset, particularly in leveraging AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot, integrating them into our development workflows to enhance productivity and quality. You will also influence engineering best practices, mentor senior engineers, and contribute to the open-source community, shaping the future of secure collaboration technology.
Qualifications
- Senior full-stack development experience in Go and React (or comparable stacks)
- Proven track record of owning complex, end-to-end software systems
- Experience designing and managing distributed systems or high-availability architectures at scale
- Strong understanding of REST and WebSocket API design and networking fundamentals
- Relational database experience, including schema design and query optimization with PostgreSQL
- Hands-on experience working with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot
- Ability to influence technical decisions across multiple teams without formal authority
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and raising the technical standards within a team
- Comfort operating in regulated or high-compliance environments, including enterprise security, government, or critical infrastructure sectors
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the technical architecture and roadmap for Mattermost’s core web platform, spanning multiple engineering teams
- Establish and promote organization-wide standards and best practices for AI-assisted engineering workflows
- Lead the development of internal tooling and testing infrastructure to accelerate delivery and ensure quality
- Own the testing strategy and uphold high quality standards across frontend and backend systems
- Drive architectural decisions for REST and WebSocket APIs, grounded in networking fundamentals
- Collaborate with security, compliance, and product leadership to align technical strategies with customer requirements
- Mentor and guide senior engineers, fostering technical growth and organizational excellence
- Contribute to and influence the technical direction of Mattermost’s open-source codebase
