Robotics Modelling & Simulation Engineer — Digital Twin (Simulation Focus)

Munich, Germany

AI Futures is supporting by a well-funded, semi-stealth physical AI/robotics company building humanoid robots, based in Munich with a second site in Limassol, Cyprus. Founded by entrepreneurs with a track record scaling digital products and advanced robotics, and backed by senior leadership from top-tier AI research labs and industrial tech companies, our client is now assembling its core engineering team. Company details will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

The role

Our client is looking for a senior engineer to own the software side of their Digital Twin — the simulation environment and control logic that lets the team validate a robot before a single part is built. You'll hold the whole pipeline in your head: from URDF/robot description through physics simulation, kinematics, motion planning, and control deployment, all the way to sim-to-real transfer on physical hardware.

This isn't a role for someone who's used MuJoCo or Gazebo for a single project — they need someone who's built or owned simulation infrastructure at a systems level.

Responsibilities

- Architect and maintain high-fidelity simulation environments (MuJoCo, Gazebo, or Isaac Sim) that serve as the single source of truth for the engineering org

- Build and maintain URDF/robot description models, including automated pipelines for ingesting kinematic and physical/sensor properties

- Implement kinematics, motion, and trajectory planning; deploy classical and ML-based (RL) control stacks in simulation

- Design and run sim-to-real validation pipelines, deploying policies and control logic to physical robots

- Develop simulation-based experiments to optimize kinematics, packaging, and hardware configuration before physical build

- Work across ROS2, Python, and C++ to integrate simulation output with real robot systems

Requirements

- 5+ years in robotics software, simulation, or controls engineering, with demonstrable ownership of a simulation pipeline end-to-end — not just tool usage

- Deep hands-on experience with MuJoCo and/or Gazebo, plus URDF and forward/inverse kinematics

- Strong ROS/ROS2 experience

- Track record of taking simulation and control work through to deployment on physical hardware (sim-to-real)

- Comfortable operating across classical control and modern ML/RL approaches

- A systems mindset — thinks about the whole pipeline, not just one piece of it

What's on offer

Our client is substantially internally funded, with capital timed to the deployment inflection point rather than an early-mover dead end. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help shape a European champion in physical AI, working alongside leadership with a track record of building unicorn-scale companies.

Interested candidates should apply via AI Futures; all enquiries will be handled in strict confidence.
