We are seeking an experienced Senior Interior Designer for one of our clients in Richmond, VA.
This is a senior-level opportunity for an accomplished commercial interior design professional who can lead projects, work directly with clients, mentor junior designers, and oversee the complete design process from programming through construction administration.
The interior design practice supports projects across corporate, healthcare, higher education, transportation, and government markets.
Please note: Commercial Interior Design experience is required.
For the right candidate, this position also offers potential progression into a management role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead programming and space planning for commercial interior projects
- Perform and oversee field verification and existing-condition documentation
- Lead the development and production of construction documents
- Direct finish and furniture selection, specifications, and client presentations
- Lead construction administration and project coordination
- Manage projects through various stages of design and delivery
- Maintain and strengthen long-term client relationships
- Work directly with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams
- Support business development and repeat-client initiatives
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior design staff
- Ensure projects comply with applicable building codes and industry standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design – required
- 15+ years of professional interior design experience
- Significant commercial interior design and project leadership experience
- NCIDQ Certification – preferred
- Strong proficiency in Revit
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office
- Strong working knowledge of building codes and industry standards
- Proven client-facing experience
- Strong communication, presentation, leadership, and relationship-management skills
- Ability to lead projects from programming and design through construction administration
- Ability to work from the Richmond office full-time for the first 6 months
Preferred Qualifications
- 3D rendering capabilities
- Experience with InDesign, SketchUp, and Photoshop
- Experience mentoring or leading junior designers
- Experience supporting business development and maintaining long-term client relationships
Work Arrangement
The selected candidate will work full-time from the Richmond, VA office for the first six months. After the initial six-month period, the position will transition to a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days working from home.
