Box Elder County has an opening for a full-time GIS Technician III / Server Administrator. This position is an advanced technical role responsible for administering and maintaining the County's enterprise GIS environment, including GIS data, servers, databases, applications, and services. The position works under the general guidance and direction of the Administrative Services Director and serves as a senior technical resource to GIS staff and County departments.
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Cartography, or a related field and three years of experience using GIS, including experience with enterprise GIS environments, geodatabases, GIS servers, or comparable systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position performs advanced GIS data management, spatial analysis, geoprocessing, cartographic production, enterprise geodatabase administration, and GIS server and application administration. Responsibilities include configuring and monitoring GIS services, troubleshooting system and database issues, managing user access and security, maintaining backup and recovery procedures, developing automated GIS workflows, and providing technical support and training to County users. The position also coordinates GIS projects and data exchanges with County departments, government agencies, contractors, and vendors.
Successful applicants should have strong knowledge of enterprise GIS architecture, GIS servers and web GIS environments, enterprise geodatabases, spatial analysis, and GIS data management. Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal is required, with experience in SQL, Python/ArcPy, GIS automation, and database administration preferred. Experience with local-government GIS applications and GIS server security, monitoring, backup, and recovery is also preferred.
