About the role
The focus is on building the data models and analytics foundations that support financial planning, reporting and investment decision-making across this major investment firm.
You’ll work with complex financial and investment data, taking information from fragmented source systems and databases and turning it into reliable, well-structured models that can be used for reporting, forecasting and analysis.
The environment is Azure-based and evolving toward a more unified Microsoft Fabric architecture, building on existing data warehousing capabilities.
What you’ll be doing
- Design and build scalable data models that support FP&A, financial reporting, forecasting and management analysis
- Work with finance and investment stakeholders to understand how financial data is used and translate those requirements into robust analytical models
- Take complex and often messy data from multiple systems and transform it into trusted, reporting-ready datasets
- Develop SQL-based transformation workflows and data warehouse models that power reports, dashboards and downstream analytics
- Model financial and investment data across areas such as loans, real estate and broader investment portfolios
- Build data structures that bring together actuals, forecasts and other financial and operational measures to provide a consistent view of performance
- Work across Microsoft Fabric, Synapse and the wider Azure data environment
- Improve existing warehouse structures, reporting processes, data quality and documentation
- Help develop new analytics and data platform capabilities from the ground up while also modernising existing systems
- Use modern transformation tooling such as dbt where appropriate, while applying strong underlying SQL and data modelling principles
What they’re looking for
- This is a small, high-impact team, so they’re looking for someone who combines strong technical data modelling skills with an understanding of the financial context behind the data.
- Strong experience working with FP&A in an asset management or investment environment
- Excellent SQL skills and significant experience building analytical data models
- Strong understanding of data warehousing and dimensional modelling
- Experience taking complex or poorly structured source data and turning it into robust, reusable models for reporting and analytics
- Experience working with finance stakeholders and understanding concepts such as actuals, budgets, forecasts, variance and financial performance
- Experience within financial services, ideally asset management, alternative investments, private credit, lending or real estate
- Experience with Azure-based data platforms
- dbt experience is beneficial but not essential. Strong traditional SQL and data modelling experience is the priority
- Experience building or significantly evolving data platforms and analytics capabilities rather than purely maintaining existing reports
- Ability to work across technical, finance and investment stakeholders
