About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of PLC and SCADA-based control systems for our chemical injection and remote power products. You will own automation projects from concept through commissioning, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with Product Development, Manufacturing, and Field Service to deliver reliable, field-ready control solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and test PLC-based control systems for chemical injection skids, tank systems, and remote power units
- Develop and maintain SCADA/HMI applications for real-time monitoring, alarming, and remote control
- Lead automation design reviews and provide technical direction to junior and intermediate team members
- Select and integrate instrumentation, sensors, and communication hardware (RTUs, radios, cellular/satellite telemetry) for remote, unmanned well-site environments
- Ensure control system designs meet CSA/APEGA standards and Class I Division 2 hazardous location requirements
- Develop control narratives, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and functional specifications
- Support FAT, commissioning, and start-up at customer sites, including field travel as required
- Troubleshoot control system issues in the field and provide technical escalation support to Service
- Drive continuous improvement in automation design standards, code libraries, and testing procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent)
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as a P.Eng. or C.E.T. with APEGA
- 5–7+ years of industrial automation experience, with direct PLC/SCADA programming
- Oil and gas or process industry experience; chemical injection or wellsite automation a strong asset
- Proficiency with major PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and SCADA/HMI software
- Working knowledge of Modbus, Ethernet/IP, DNP3
- Familiarity with hazardous location classifications and CSA electrical code requirements
- Valid driver's licence; willingness to travel to customer sites, including remote locations
