System Engineer – Enterprise Infrastructure & Microsoft Cloud
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on System Engineer to support the day-to-day operation of enterprise infrastructure and Microsoft cloud environments.
This role will be responsible for responding to infrastructure incidents, service requests, and operational tasks received through service tickets, email, and direct requests. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience supporting on-premises enterprise infrastructure, along with practical hands-on experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud services.
This is an operational, hands-on position requiring strong technical judgment, effective task management, clear communication, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with internal IT teams, Managed Service Providers (MSPs), and technology vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Identity, Access & Active Directory
- Administer and support Active Directory and related core services, including:
- Organizational Units (OUs)
- Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
- DNS
- DHCP
- LDAP integrations
- Service accounts
- Privileged accounts
- Process infrastructure access requests in accordance with established security controls and least-privilege principles.
- Generate operational, audit, inventory, and administrative reports using PowerShell.
Windows Server, Virtualization & Infrastructure
- Build, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server 2016 and later.
- Monitor server availability, health, capacity, and performance.
- Investigate infrastructure alerts and coordinate root cause analysis (RCA), corrective actions, and issue resolution.
- Support day-to-day virtualization activities within VMware/vCenter environments.
- Maintain appropriate administrative access and support enterprise virtualization platforms.
- Support enterprise storage technologies, including:
- SAN
- NAS
- Object storage
- Archiving
- Cloud storage
Patching, Software Deployment & Backup
- Coordinate with MSP partners on MECM/SCCM application packaging, software deployment, and Windows patching activities.
- Validate patching results, track exceptions, and follow up on failed or incomplete deployments.
- Support enterprise software deployment and patching cycles.
- Monitor enterprise backup jobs and investigate failures.
- Coordinate remediation and recovery activities using enterprise backup platforms such as Commvault.
Microsoft 365 & Azure Support
- Provide operational support for Microsoft 365 services, including:
- Microsoft Teams
- SharePoint Online
- Exchange Online
- Power Platform
- Other Microsoft 365 services
- Support Azure infrastructure and cloud services within established architecture, security, and governance standards.
- Assist with troubleshooting hybrid issues spanning on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft cloud environments.
- Support operational issues involving cloud connectivity, identity, messaging, and infrastructure services.
Operational Support & Coordination
- Own and resolve infrastructure incidents, service requests, and operational tasks.
- Prioritize work based on business impact, urgency, dependencies, and service commitments.
- Work closely with internal IT teams, MSPs, and technology vendors.
- Provide clear and timely status updates to stakeholders.
- Document troubleshooting activities, resolutions, and operational procedures.
- Escalate risks, technical blockers, and critical issues when necessary.
- Maintain accurate technical and operational documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of focused experience administering Active Directory and related core services within an enterprise environment.
- Strong hands-on experience supporting on-premises enterprise infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience supporting Windows Server 2016 or later.
- Hands-on experience with VMware/vCenter or a comparable enterprise virtualization platform.
- Practical experience supporting enterprise storage technologies, including:
- SAN
- NAS
- Object storage
- Backup
- Archiving
- Cloud storage
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 services with hands-on administration or operational support experience.
- Hands-on experience supporting Azure infrastructure and cloud services.
- Working knowledge of on-premises messaging environments and hybrid messaging concepts.
- Working knowledge of networking concepts related to:
- Hosted services
- Application connectivity
- Resiliency
- Performance
- Working knowledge of MECM/SCCM, including application packaging and software deployment.
- Strong understanding of Windows patching processes and enterprise patching cycles.
- Working knowledge of enterprise backup solutions such as Commvault.
- Experience using infrastructure monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds.
- Proficiency with PowerShell for administration, troubleshooting, automation, and reporting.
- Excellent time management, task management, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced enterprise support environment.
- Experience coordinating effectively with internal IT teams, MSPs, and technology vendors.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on infrastructure professional who is comfortable working across both traditional enterprise infrastructure and Microsoft cloud environments.
They should be able to troubleshoot issues involving Active Directory, Windows Server, VMware, Microsoft 365, Azure, storage, backups, patching, and enterprise monitoring, while effectively coordinating with internal teams, MSPs, and vendors.
This individual should be comfortable taking ownership of operational issues from initial investigation through resolution or escalation.
