Position Overview
A rapidly growing multi-site organization is seeking an HR Business Partner to support an Operations VP and their market by connecting people strategy to measurable business outcomes.
This is a field-based HR partnership role for an experienced professional who enjoys working closely with operational leaders and frontline teams. The successful candidate will build trusted relationships, influence business decisions, strengthen leadership capabilities, improve retention, and use workforce data to identify opportunities for improvement.
The position reports to a Director of HR Business Partners who provides hands-on coaching and development, with opportunities for career growth based on performance and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnership – Approximately 40%
- Serve as a strategic HR advisor to the Operations VP.
- Participate in leadership discussions and connect people strategies to business objectives.
- Provide guidance on workforce planning, retention, leadership, and performance.
Talent Management – Approximately 30%
- Build leadership bench strength across the market.
- Assess leadership readiness and identify development opportunities.
- Lead structured development conversations and support leadership growth.
- Help create targeted plans to strengthen succession and talent pipelines.
Employee Relations – Approximately 15%
- Manage employee relations matters with sound judgment, consistency, and timeliness.
- Conduct and support investigations and disciplinary actions.
- Identify recurring employee relations patterns and address underlying causes.
- Review termination decisions proactively to help reduce organizational risk.
HR Operations – Approximately 15%
- Execute performance management processes.
- Communicate HR programs, policies, and organizational initiatives.
- Support compliance and consistent implementation of HR practices.
- Maintain effective communication with leaders and employees across the market.
What You'll Own
- Partner closely with operational leadership and influence people-related business decisions.
- Identify retention risks and implement targeted action plans.
- Maintain visibility into leadership bench strength and readiness.
- Use workforce data to identify trends and connect them to business and leadership behaviors.
- Support leadership development and succession planning.
- Manage employee relations issues, investigations, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure consistent performance management and policy execution.
- Maintain a strong presence in the field and build credibility with frontline employees and leaders.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of HR Business Partner or HR generalist experience, preferably in a multi-site, field-based environment.
- Experience partnering with operational leaders and influencing business outcomes.
- Strong employee relations experience, including investigations and disciplinary actions.
- Strong business acumen and ability to connect people decisions with operational performance.
- Comfortable analyzing workforce data and using insights to guide decisions.
- Experience with leadership assessment or development tools is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned market.
- Approximately 25–40% overnight travel required.
- Coverage may include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin, with preference for candidates located within the supported region.
