About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to help build and scale mission-critical financial technology platforms serving large numbers of customers. You will design, develop, and maintain highly available distributed systems that support digital payment and financial services products.
This position requires strong technical ownership, a passion for solving complex engineering challenges, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs.
- Build scalable, fault-tolerant systems capable of supporting rapid business growth.
- Improve system reliability, availability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and platform teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical strategy.
- Perform code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
- Investigate production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
- Monitor application health and optimize service performance.
- Contribute to automation initiatives that improve developer productivity and deployment reliability.
- Take ownership of services in production and ensure operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong experience building backend applications using Java or similar enterprise-grade programming languages.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and large-scale backend services.
- Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Strong understanding of software design principles, testing methodologies, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience troubleshooting complex production environments.
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational database technologies.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with globally distributed teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within fintech, payments, banking, or highly regulated industries.
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience working with high-volume transaction processing systems.
- Exposure to observability, monitoring, and performance tuning practices.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical improvements across teams.
