Hirely is recruiting Mathematics PhD Scientific Coding Experts on behalf of a hiring partner for a new scientific computing and AI evaluation project.
You’ll use your advanced mathematics and scientific computing expertise to author challenging, executable research problems designed to evaluate the capabilities of frontier AI models.
The work combines mathematical research, scientific programming, problem design, and AI evaluation.
What You’ll Do
- Develop original scientific computing problems based on real research or scenarios you design.
- Source relevant material from published research, datasets, open-source repositories, or other appropriate sources.
- Write detailed scientific prompts that require meaningful mathematical and computational reasoning.
- Develop grading criteria that clearly define what constitutes a correct solution.
- Create executable evaluation tasks using scientific computing workflows.
- Test and refine tasks to ensure they are technically correct, rigorous, and sufficiently challenging.
- Calibrate tasks against advanced AI models and refine them when necessary.
- Work through a Git/GitHub pull-request workflow with automated quality checks.
- Ensure mathematical assumptions, computational methods, and expected outputs are accurate and reproducible.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated depth in at least two of the following areas:
- Numerical Linear Algebra
- Computational Mechanics
- Computational Finance
- Working proficiency in Python or R for scientific computing.
- Comfortable using Git/GitHub and working with code repositories.
- Experience running or developing code in Docker.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and scientific problem-solving ability.
- Ability to write clear, rigorous technical problems and evaluation criteria.
Relevant Backgrounds
Candidates with experience in Computational Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Numerical Linear Algebra, Computational Mechanics, Computational Finance, Scientific Computing, Mathematical Modeling, Quantitative Research, Computational Science, Scientific Software, Research Engineering, or Mathematical Research may be a strong fit.
Preferred Qualifications
- Peer-reviewed publications in mathematics, computational science, or a related field.
- Prior scientific software development or research engineering experience.
- Experience working with research datasets or open-source scientific repositories.
- Experience developing reproducible computational experiments.
- Familiarity with scientific Python/R ecosystems and numerical computing libraries.
- Experience with AI evaluation, benchmark development, or technical task authoring is a plus.
Compensation & Work Arrangement
- $70/hour
