Roadrunner’s network performance depends on disciplined, high integrity maintenance operations across every regional terminal. As we scale a differentiated long haul LTL model, the reliability of our fleet, facilities, and vendor ecosystem becomes a strategic advantage—not a back-office function.

This role exists to elevate maintenance standards, strengthen compliance, and drive cost efficient execution across a geographically distributed operation. The Manager, Regional Maintenance ensures our equipment, processes, and people operate at a level that supports network speed, safety, and consistency.

Success in this role means building a proactive, data driven maintenance culture; reducing avoidable costs; improving CSA performance; and ensuring every terminal operates with predictable, audit ready discipline. This leader will be a force multiplier for field teams and a trusted partner to operations, safety, and executive leadership.

What you’ll do

1. Lead regional maintenance execution

- Build and implement maintenance programs and policies that exceed federal compliance standards.

- Conduct field maintenance audits and review findings with terminal leadership to drive corrective action.

- Inspect equipment, validate vendor repairs, and ensure adherence to quality and cost expectations.

- Address building maintenance exceptions and support CSA improvement initiatives.

- Provide hands‑on training and guidance to field personnel to elevate technical capability.

2. Strengthen systems, compliance, and cost control

- Identify unnecessary costs and collaborate cross functionally to implement sustainable cost control measures.

- Maintain and improve Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) to ensure consistent execution across terminals.

- Ensure alignment with DOT, OSHA, CARB, and other regulatory requirements.

- Leverage maintenance support software to improve visibility, accuracy, and decision making.

3. Drive analytical insight and operational improvement

- Generate location level performance reports to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

- Partner with executive leadership on strategic projects that enhance network reliability and efficiency.

- Use data to inform maintenance planning, vendor performance, and resource allocation.

- Support parts procurement processes to reduce downtime and improve cost efficiency.

4. Build cross functional alignment

- Collaborate with terminal operations, safety, breakdown teams, and vendor partners to ensure a unified, high performance approach.

- Communicate clearly and consistently with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and business partners.

- Reinforce a “one team” mindset across all maintenance and operational touchpoints.

- Support Safety Team initiatives and ensure maintenance practices align with broader operational goals.

5. Elevate field performance and accountability

- Set clear expectations for maintenance quality, compliance, and responsiveness.

- Coach and develop field teams to improve technical capability and operational discipline.

- Ensure accountability for execution, documentation, and continuous improvement.

- Champion a culture of ownership, urgency, and operational excellence.

What you bring

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred; minimum 7 years of related fleet maintenance experience.

- 7+ years of experience in mechanical systems, fleet maintenance, and cost analysis, including 5+ years in leadership roles.

- 10+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or trailer maintenance technician strongly preferred.

- Deep expertise in trailer systems: brakes, suspension, tires, lights, electrical, and hydraulics.

- Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, CARB, and related regulatory frameworks.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

- Experience with maintenance support systems such as M5, TMT, Dossier, or similar platforms.

- Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain organization, and execute with precision.

- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

- Ability to travel up to 25%.

How you operate

- You think in systems, not tasks.

- You elevate standards and expect accountability.

- You challenge assumptions with data and clarity.

- You move quickly while maintaining operational discipline.

- You communicate directly, confidently, and with purpose.

- You own outcomes—not activity.

- You build trust through consistency and follow through.

- You solve problems with a blend of technical depth and business judgment.

About Roadrunner

Roadrunner is for ambitious, smart people who excel at execution over talking about it, and who would rather invent the next standard in freight than accept the status quo.

We are looking for the Best of the Best. Action driven leaders who want to be part of real change and help design the future of LTL in the U.S. This is a place where high performers can grow, influence outcomes, and make an impact while working directly with executives and smart people from across industries.

We bring a winner mindset. We take ownership, raise the bar, and measure ourselves by results. We Run Safe. We Run Smart. We Run Together. These principles create an environment of high standards, clear ownership, and direct collaboration. We trust data over intuition, move with urgency, and hold each other accountable because winning requires it.

Roadrunner exists to prove that LTL can be better than the industry has settled for. To be the best means we need to think bigger, look outside the box, and question every assumption: too many handoffs, limited visibility, and the quiet belief that “this is just how it works.” We rejected that story. We built a proprietary Smart Network™ for direct, long haul, metro to metro service that delivers fewer touches, faster transit, real time visibility, and genuine accountability. We are the most tech forward company in LTL, and we are not finished widening the gap.

The foundation is already strong. Recognized as one of Built In Chicago’s Best Large Places to Work. Earning top marks for improvement, quality, and service. The real opportunity is still ahead: helping invent what comes next.

If you want to be evaluated among the Best of the Best and help set the new standard in LTL, we should talk.
