We’re looking for a senior front-end engineer who has actually built and implemented an enterprise design system, not someone who has simply consumed an existing component library.
About the Role
The strongest candidates will bring hands-on experience with Angular, Storybook, reusable components, WCAG accessibility, ARIA, semantic HTML, and enterprise design systems such as USWDS or similar frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Build, document, and maintain an enterprise design system and reusable component library.
- Establish design-system components and patterns where a standardized implementation does not already exist.
- Develop high-level Angular wrapper components that provide consistent behavior and accessibility across applications.
- Build accessible UI components using HTML, SASS, Angular, semantic markup, and ARIA.
- Use Storybook for component development, documentation, testing, and collaboration.
- Apply WCAG accessibility requirements throughout component development and front-end implementation.
- Perform accessibility reviews and identify issues involving semantic HTML, ARIA, keyboard interaction, and accessible UI patterns.
- Work with developers across multiple teams to implement common design-system and accessibility patterns.
- Review front-end code and provide practical guidance around accessibility and reusable component architecture.
- Document component behavior, implementation guidance, workflows, and accessibility requirements.
- Support accessibility audits and remediation efforts across enterprise applications.
- Evaluate existing UI patterns and identify opportunities to replace inconsistent implementations with reusable components.
- Help teams adopt consistent design-system practices across modern web applications.
- Communicate technical and accessibility decisions clearly with developers, technical stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- 5+ years professional front-end development experience.
- 5+ years hands-on experience with enterprise design systems, including building or integrating reusable component libraries.
- Demonstrated experience setting up and implementing a design system from scratch or establishing a major design-system implementation within an enterprise project.
- 5+ years of accessibility-focused front-end development, including practical experience with:
- WCAG 2.1
- WCAG AAA requirements
- ARIA
- Semantic HTML
- Accessibility testing/remediation
- 5+ years hands-on Angular experience.
- 5+ years hands-on HTML and SASS experience.
- 5+ years using Storybook for component development/documentation/collaboration.
- Experience with USWDS or a comparable enterprise design system.
- Strong technical communication skills, including the ability to explain accessibility and design-system implementation decisions to other developers.
