1. Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching in English language, literature and related areas; engage students through innovative teaching methodologies; contribute to curriculum development, research, academic administration, and the overall development of the University.
2. Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical/communication-based English sessions.
- Teach subjects such as English Literature, Communication Skills, Business Communication, Academic Writing, Grammar, Language Skills, and related courses.
- Prepare lesson plans, course materials, presentations, assignments and assessments.
- Use modern teaching methods, ICT tools, LMS and blended-learning techniques.
- Provide academic guidance and mentoring to students.
- Conduct remedial and enrichment classes wherever required.
Assessment & Academic Activities
- Prepare question papers, assignments, quizzes and examination materials.
- Evaluate answer scripts, assignments, projects and presentations.
- Maintain student attendance, academic records and other departmental documentation.
- Participate in internal and external examination duties.
- Support curriculum review and development.
Research & Publications
- Conduct research in English Language, Literature, Linguistics, Communication or related areas.
- Publish research papers in reputed journals and present papers at conferences/seminars.
- Participate in research projects, workshops, FDPs and academic conferences.
- Contribute to the University's research and publication activities.
Student Development
- Mentor and counsel students regarding academic and career-related matters.
- Organize literary activities, debates, elocution, essay writing, presentations, language clubs and other co-curricular activities.
- Support students in improving their communication, presentation and professional English skills.
- Guide students in projects, dissertations and academic assignments as applicable.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental meetings and University committees.
- Assist in accreditation, ranking and quality-assurance documentation such as NAAC/NBA/NIRF, wherever applicable.
- Maintain course files, teaching records and other academic documentation.
- Undertake any other academic or administrative responsibility assigned by the HOD/Dean.
3. Minimum Educational Qualification
- Master's Degree in English / English Literature / relevant or allied subject with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognized University.
- NET/SET/SLET qualification as applicable under prevailing UGC norms.
- Ph.D. in English/Literature/Linguistics/related discipline will be an added advantage.
- Candidates must satisfy the applicable UGC and University eligibility requirements. The UGC's 2023 amendment specifies NET/SET/SLET as the minimum criterion for direct recruitment to Assistant Professor posts in Higher Education Institutions.
4. Desirable Qualifications
- Ph.D. in English or related discipline.
- Research publications in UGC-CARE/reputed peer-reviewed journals or other recognized publications.
- Experience in teaching at University/College level.
- Experience in curriculum development, academic coordination or student mentoring.
- Knowledge of LMS, digital teaching tools and blended learning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Experience
- Freshers with required eligibility may be considered.
- Prior teaching/research experience at a University or College will be preferred.
