Founding AI Engineer | VC-Backed Fintech | AI & Mathematical Optimisation | Berlin (Hybrid)
AI Futures has been exclusively retained to hire a Founding AI Engineer for a VC-backed fintech company based in Berlin.
This is a high-impact engineering opportunity within a fast-growing financial optimisation business. The company is revolutionising mathematical optimisation, automation, and decision-making across the banking, insurance, and financial sectors through cutting-edge AI and LLM technologies.
The successful candidate will be one of the early technical hires, taking significant ownership across the AI/ML stack and helping shape the company's technology, products, and engineering practices from idea through to production.
Hybrid: 2 days per week onsite in Berlin
Remuneration: Up to €120k + VSOP
The Role
- Develop and optimise AI and machine learning models, including LLMs, deep learning techniques, and mathematical optimisation algorithms, to improve automation and decision-making across financial processes.
- Design and build scalable AI systems capable of solving complex optimisation challenges across banking, insurance, and financial services.
- Take end-to-end ownership of AI projects, from problem definition and experimentation through to production deployment and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Data Scientists, Engineers, and Business Stakeholders to develop high-impact AI products and solutions.
- Engage directly with clients to understand complex business problems, tailor AI solutions to their specific needs, and deliver measurable value.
- Help shape the company's AI architecture, engineering practices, and technical roadmap as an early member of the team.
- Work in a lean, highly autonomous environment where engineers have real ownership and are empowered to move quickly from idea to production.
The Candidate
- 3+ years’ experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, AI Engineer, or similar technical role.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong foundation in mathematical optimisation, algorithms, and quantitative problem-solving.
- Expert knowledge of Python and strong experience working with relational databases and SQL.
- Experience with LLMs, RAG, chatbot technologies, or modern generative AI is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of the full AI/ML lifecycle, from experimentation and model development through to production deployment.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently and take ownership in an early-stage environment.
- Strong communication skills and confidence collaborating with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Fluency in German and English.
