This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role — not a management position.

Our client is looking for someone who can troubleshoot and make decisions independently, understand our security posture well enough to make sound calls on the fly, and not need to escalate every issue. Third-party vendors handle deep network, security, and AV work, so this is not a specialist role in those areas — but the person still needs enough working knowledge to configure and support the environment day to day. This person will also work directly with the executive team on a regular basis, so comfort operating with executive presence matters as much as technical depth.

Key Responsibilities

- Serve as the most senior hands-on IT practitioner apart from the Head of IT, personally owning complex troubleshooting and escalations from start to finish.

- Own day-to-day, hands-on administration of the Microsoft stack — Microsoft 365, Azure, and especially Windows Intune, which the team relies on heavily for deployment and device management.

- Administer Entra ID (Azure AD) directly, including leading the technical work to retire Duo and standardize on MFA within Entra ID.

- Maintain working knowledge of AV, networking, and security fundamentals — enough to personally configure the environment and handle routine requests, escalating to specialist vendor partners only for deep expertise.

- Provide direct, white-glove support to the executive team — going to an executive's desk, diagnosing the issue, and resolving it on the spot rather than routing it through a standard ticket queue.

- Exercise independent judgment to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly, applying company security policy as the first filter on every decision — without escalating every minor issue to the Head of IT.

- Informally mentor two full-time IT staff by working alongside them day to day, particularly building their Intune skills beyond their current entry-level exposure. This is a peer-mentoring function, not a supervisory or people-management responsibility.

Required Qualifications

- 10+ years of senior-level, hands-on enterprise IT experience with demonstrated individual ownership of complex technical work.

- Deep, hands-on fluency with the Microsoft Stack: Microsoft 365, Azure, and especially Windows Intune for endpoint deployment and management.

- Strong working knowledge of Entra ID (Azure AD), including MFA administration; experience migrating or standardizing an MFA solution is a strong plus.

- Proven ability to personally troubleshoot and resolve issues independently and quickly, exercising judgment consistent with established security policy.

- Executive-facing presence and communication skills — polished, calm under pressure, and comfortable being the face of IT to senior leadership and the C-suite, while remaining a technical, hands-on contributor.

- Demonstrated experience informally mentoring or developing junior IT staff through direct, side-by-side technical work — not formal people management.

- Working (not necessarily expert) knowledge of networking, AV, and security fundamentals, sufficient to configure the environment and handle routine work independently.

- Experience in a similar industry or comparably regulated, executive-driven environment (e.g., private equity or a similar high-touch setting) is strongly preferred, so the candidate already understands the regulatory context and the expectation that IT drops everything for executive requests.
