Job Description
The Pre-production Quality Engineer at Rivian will play a crucial role in connecting various teams such as Product Development, Engineering, and Operations to ensure the successful launch of new electric vehicles. This position focuses on maintaining high-quality standards during prototype builds and optimizing quality processes through data analysis. The engineer will act as the voice of Quality, facilitating communication and problem-solving across multiple departments. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing solutions to enhance vehicle reliability and performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a similar field or equivalent experience
- At least 2 years of quality experience in manufacturing or engineering environments
- Understanding of launch processes from prototype through series production
- Generic understanding of how complex production lines operate, including production control and supply chain
- Knowledge of manufacturing validation processes for complex new products
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in methodologies like 8D
- Willingness to travel at least 40% of the time
Responsibilities
- Understand the activities required to support readiness for new model development builds and successful product launches.
- Provide status updates, summaries, and issue resolution tracking reports.
- Plan, organize, and execute pre-launch build activities.
- Interact and support results across teams in design, manufacturing engineering, and production operations.
- Facilitate ramp management with operations teams and initiate execution and risk mitigation.
- Support the operations readiness workstream to ensure target objectives are met.
- Maintain accountability for shop floor organization, safety, and department 5S standards.
- Serve as a point of contact for the Quality team to identify root causes of technical issues.
- Monitor and manage systematic problems through the operations tracking system.
