Role Description The Forward Deployed Engineer is a full-time remote role focused on implementing and configuring Alation’s solutions directly with customers. In this position, you will collaborate closely with customer stakeholders to understand technical requirements, integrate Alation with data sources and systems, and customize back-end components to meet specific use cases. You will develop and maintain software features, write clean and reliable code, and troubleshoot integration or performance issues in production environments. Daily work includes designing and testing data workflows, building scripts or services to automate processes, and documenting implementation details for both technical and non-technical audiences. You will also support knowledge transfer to customer teams and partner with product and engineering colleagues to share feedback and improve the platform.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Computer Science concepts and software development practices.
- Proficiency in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) for building scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Experience in Back-End Web Development, including APIs, services, and data integration.
- Ability to collaborate with customers, gather requirements, and translate business needs into technical implementations.
- Comfort working remotely, managing time independently, and contributing to distributed teams.
- Experience with databases, data pipelines, or data platforms is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python) and common web technologies is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
