ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a seasoned Retail Industry Advisor having 12+ years who brings firsthand experience from within large retail organisations. This is not a technology role — it is a domain expertise and strategic advisory role. You will act as a trusted voice of the retailer, helping us build the right product, reach the right buyers, and enter the market with credibility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product & Domain Advisory
- Validate product concepts, features, and workflows against real retail operational realities.
- Provide candid feedback on demos, prototypes, and UX flows from the perspective of an actual retail operator.
- Highlight blind spots in our product thinking — workflows we may have oversimplified or missed entirely.
Market Access & Network
- Make warm introductions to potential pilot customers, retail chains, or buying decision-makers from your network.
- Support outreach to retail industry bodies, associations, or conference networks where relevant.
Go-to-Market Strategy
- Advise on who the true buyer is in a retail organisation (IT head, COO, category manager, etc.) and how they purchase technology.
- Help shape messaging, positioning, and pitch materials so they resonate with retail decision-makers.
- Provide insight into the typical sales cycle, procurement process, and evaluation criteria in retail tech buying.
Credibility & Representation
- Represent the company as a domain-credible advisor in investor conversations, partnerships, and media as needed.
- Participate in periodic advisory board reviews (quarterly or as agreed).
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Must-Have
- 12+ years of experience in the retail industry in a leadership or senior management capacity.
- Held roles such as CIO, COO, VP Operations, VP Technology, Head of Supply Chain, Head of E-Commerce, or equivalent at a recognized retail brand or chain.
- Deep familiarity with retail operations — stores, supply chain, merchandising, POS, inventory, or customer experience.
- Experience in evaluating, buying, or implementing retail technology (ERP, WMS, OMS, POS, analytics platforms, etc.).
- Strong professional network within the Indian or global retail ecosystem.
Good to Have
- Experience with D2C brands, quick commerce, or omnichannel retail transformation.
- Prior advisory, board, or consulting experience with startups or technology companies.
- Familiarity with retail tech landscape — vendors, platforms, and current industry pain points.
