Hours: 3x12hr Night shifts per week, 7pm-7am with variable days

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Registered Nurse II Specialist / ECMO conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluates care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs. Ensure appropriate operations of specialized equipment through the continuous monitoring of the patient condition and all related equipment. Based on their findings, the registered nurse specialist is expected to assess, implement and evaluate interventions within ordered parameters. Registered nurse specialist will maintain an in depth knowledge of the relationship between the patient and the environment. Collaborate with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.

The team provides ECMO support to patients in the CTICU, NICCU, and PICU. When not providing direct ECMO care, the Specialist RN would work as a bedside nurse in one of the 3 ICUs.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 3+ years’ experience as an RN II in a Neonatal/Pediatric Critical Care/Trauma ED/ECMO. ECMO experience preferred. Broad knowledge of patient care principles and equipment; CHLA patient care policies and procedures. Ability to assess effectiveness of patient care; maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize tasks for complex patient care; communicate tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing.

Education/Licensure/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree required; BSN preferred. Completion of an ECMO training course (upon orientation). Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Current American Heart Association BLS, PALS and NRP certification/card.
