Reporting to the Vice President, Projects and Estimating, the Project Engineer is responsible for the analysis, validation, and technical follow-up of assigned projects. The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Drafters, and fabrication teams to ensure that drawings, calculations, and technical documentation comply with client requirements, applicable codes and standards, and manufacturing requirements. The Project Engineer also acts as a technical resource, supporting the resolution of issues that arise during production and contributing to the achievement of quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
Key Responsibilites:
- Review client documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical requirements, and identify any inconsistencies or conflicting information.
- Perform the technical calculations required to validate drawings, including calculations in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1, ASME B31.3, and lifting calculations.
- Review and revise fabrication drawings and weld maps prepared by Drafters based on applicable codes, specifications, and reference drawings.
- Recommend technical solutions and adjustments to ensure the manufacturability of projects.
- Respond to clients’ technical inquiries and ensure thorough follow-up on technical matters.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and production teams to optimize quality, costs, and project timelines.
- Ensure that pre-production schedules are met and participate in planning departmental activities.
- Provide technical support throughout the fabrication process, including the management of non-conformities, rework, and required adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, client requirements, and the company’s quality standards.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- Excellent proficiency in both French and English, written and spoken.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in metal fabrication or custom manufacturing.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with technical drawing and design software, including AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Excellent knowledge of welding, assembly, and metal fabrication processes.
- Strong knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Division 1.
- Ability to perform complex technical calculations and interpret detailed drawings and specifications.
