WHAT YOU WILL DO

Oversee day-to-day security operations, including internal and external access control, CCTV monitoring, lost and found, and incident response and investigation.

Serve as the property's lead for Fire Life Safety (FLS), ensuring full compliance with NYC Fire Department (FDNY) codes and regulations, including required certifications, permits, and inspections.

Maintain and administer the property's Fire Safety and Emergency Action Plan (FSEAP), coordinating regular fire drills, evacuation procedures, and staff training in accordance with NYC Local Law and FDNY requirements.

Ensure Fire Safety Director, Fire Safety Coordinators, and other required certified personnel are properly designated, trained, and current on FDNY certificate requirements (e.g., F-80, F-58, or successor certifications as applicable).

Manage relationships with third-party contractors and vendors, including fire alarm monitoring companies, sprinkler and suppression system inspectors, elevator/fire pump technicians, and security systems vendors — overseeing scheduling, scope of work, invoicing, and contract compliance.

Coordinate and track all required inspections and testing (fire alarm, sprinkler, standpipe, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, generator/fire pump) to ensure timely completion and accurate recordkeeping for NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) and FDNY compliance.

Develop and maintain emergency response and crisis management plans covering fire, medical emergencies, severe weather, workplace violence, and other property-specific risks.

Partner with local authorities and emergency services (FDNY, NYPD, EMS) to maintain effective communication and rapid response capabilities.

Oversee the selection, placement, and performance of security technologies, including CCTV, access control, and fire/life safety alarm systems.

Work with all departments to ensure safety practices are followed, including chemical storage and use, slip/trip/fall hazard mitigation, machine guarding, safe manual material handling (ergonomics, lifting technique, task design), contractor safety management, and injury/illness prevention.

Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and compliance documentation to support audits by FDNY, DOB, OSHA, and insurance carriers.

Serve as an active member of the property's safety/risk committee, partnering with cross-functional leaders to:

Drive engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement in safety culture

Review incidents, trends, and risk mitigation strategies at the property level

Collaborate with People & Culture and property leadership on on-property investigations.

Maintain a strong partnership with Rooms and Guest Experience teams to ensure security and safety protocols support a seamless guest experience.

Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion at all times.

WHAT YOU BRING

-
Degree or diploma in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.

-
Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive experience in hotel, commercial, or residential building security/safety management, with direct responsibility for Fire Life Safety compliance.

Working knowledge of NYC Fire Code, FDNY regulations, and Local Law requirements (e.g., Local Law 26, fire alarm and sprinkler testing rules) and NYC Department of Buildings compliance obligations.

Hands-on experience managing third-party contractors and vendors, including scope negotiation, scheduling, and quality control.

Current or ability to obtain required FDNY certifications (e.g., Fire Safety Director, Fire Guard, or equivalent as required for the property's occupancy classification).

Strong knowledge of incident response, investigative techniques, and emergency/crisis management procedures.

Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities under pressure.

High integrity and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.

Proficiency with MS Office, CCTV and access control systems, and fire alarm panels.

First aid, CPR, and FDNY-required fire safety training at a minimum.

Flexibility to respond to events at all hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as operationally required.
