Employment tenure

This is a student position of 37 hours per week for a 1.5 year period from Fall 2026 to Winter 2027.

Salary

$17.75 to $38.38 per hour - Salary to be determined by the student's academic level.

You are eligible for this program if you meet these 3 requirements:

1. You are a full-time student in a post-secondary institution;

2. You are enrolled in an academic program that requires research as part of your curriculum;

3. You meet the minimum age required in the province/territory of work;

This includes students with physical or emotional disabilities deemed to have full-time status by their academic institution. Adult students registered in education and retraining programs at the secondary level may also be eligible for student employment programs.

Note: Preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who meet the job requirements.

Duties

1) Operation of experimental battery cycling system.

2) Development of AI/RL models for predicting battery state and making changes to battery usage profiles.

3) Modeling EIS data using machine learning tools.

4) Reporting results verbally and through writing.

5) Manuscript writing.

Education:

Students enrolled or able to enroll in a program at Waterloo University (proof will be required before the start date) with specialization in Chemistry.

Experience:

1. Have demonstrated through experience, or work product, a capability to machine learning/artificial intelligence to electrochemical systems especially electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Note: In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Asset Experience:

1. Competence in programming with Python, R, or Julia languages.

2. Experience publishing scientific code openly (e.g. through Github).
