Job Summary
Root and Stem Catering is looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented Culinary Operations Coordinator to help keep our culinary operation running smoothly from the moment an event or order is booked through final execution.
This is a critical coordination role that connects Culinary, Sales, Staffing, Logistics, Purchasing, and Operations. The right person will be comfortable managing details, following up with multiple departments, identifying potential problems, and making sure information gets where it needs to go—before it becomes an event-day problem.
Responsibilities (What You'll Do):
- Coordinate the administrative and operational details associated with upcoming catering events.
- Review event orders and ensure culinary information is accurate, complete, and communicated appropriately.
- Assist with production schedules, prep lists, recipes, quantities, and other culinary documentation.
- Coordinate information between Culinary, Sales, Staffing, Logistics, and Operations.
- Track event changes and ensure the culinary team is aware of important updates.
- Help coordinate ingredient, equipment, production, and other culinary requirements.
- Monitor deadlines and proactively follow up when information or action is needed.
- Assist with inventory and purchasing-related coordination.
- Maintain organized recipes, production records, event information, and department documentation.
- Help chefs and culinary leadership stay ahead of upcoming production requirements.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or potential problems and work with the appropriate team members to resolve them.
- Help develop and improve systems, checklists, procedures, and communication within the culinary department.
- Provide general operational support to the culinary team as business needs require.
- Occasionally assist with hands-on culinary or event-related tasks.
Requirements (What We're Looking For):
The ideal candidate is:
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented
- A strong communicator and proactive follow-up person
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced catering environment
- Proficient with email, spreadsheets, and standard office technology
- Comfortable learning event management and catering software
- Able to work with quantities, numbers, dates, and detailed event information
- A natural problem solver who notices what others may overlook
- Dependable and accountable
- Comfortable working with chefs and culinary professionals
- Flexible when priorities change
- Hospitality-minded and committed to helping the entire team succeed
Experience
Experience in one or more of the following is preferred:
- Catering or hospitality
- Restaurant or food-service operations
- Culinary administration
- Event production
- Operations coordination
- Administrative coordination
Culinary experience is a plus, but exceptional organizational and communication skills are equally important.
What Makes This Role Important
Catering is a team sport. A single missing detail can affect purchasing, prep, staffing, transportation, service, and ultimately the guest experience.
The Culinary Operations Coordinator helps make sure those details don't get missed.
We're looking for someone who doesn't simply receive information and pass it along. We want someone who takes ownership, connects the dots, follows through, and gets things done.
If you are the person who naturally asks, “What's next, and who needs to know?”—this could be a great role for you.
Why Root and Stem?
At Root and Stem Catering, every department touches every order. Our success depends on people who understand the bigger picture and collaborate across departments rather than operating in silos.
As Culinary Operations Coordinator, you'll play an important role in making that collaboration work—helping our culinary team stay organized, prepared, and positioned to deliver exceptional food and exceptional events.
If you're organized, resourceful, detail-driven, and energized by making complicated things run smoothly, we'd love to hear from you
