What we do
Our vision is a world where materials are fully recognized and understood. Optocycle builds hardware and software for the construction and waste management industries — connecting optical AI with the operational reality of recycling facilities. Our Material Intelligence Platform processes real-world camera data through ML pipelines and delivers actionable material insights to our customers. We're a small, technical team working on problems that actually matter.
What you'll work on
Model Development
Train, evaluate, and iterate on computer vision models that classify materials in real-world environments — messy, uncontrolled, and far from benchmark datasets.
Edge Deployment
Help optimize models for real-time inference on our edge devices and optical hardware. Latency and resource constraints are real here, not theoretical.
Dataset Management
Curate, annotate, and structure image data coming directly from our field devices. You'll be close to the raw material the models are trained on.
Systems Integration
Work closely with our hardware and software teams to get models running reliably in the production stack. ML doesn't stop at a Jupyter notebook here.
What you bring
- Solid Python skills and hands-on experience with ML/CV tools — PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, or similar.
- Practical understanding of computer vision concepts and working with image data.
- Comfort with Git and Linux environments.
- 2+ years of relevant experience — working student roles count.
- You work independently, ask when something's unclear, and care about pragmatic solutions over elegant ones.
Nice to have:
- Experience with inference optimization tools like ONNX or TensorRT.
- Exposure to Docker or Kubernetes.
- German language skills.
