Staff Accountant
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting. This role is responsible for bank reconciliations, royalty payment processing, fixed-asset accounting, account analysis, and other general accounting activities. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities, required NetSuite experience, and familiarity with Microsoft Access. Experience with MySQL is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage the royalty payment process, including calculating payments, validating supporting data, preparing payment schedules, and maintaining accurate records.
- Maintain the fixed-asset register, including asset additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and post journal entries in support of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and research unusual or outstanding balances.
- Assist with financial reporting, variance analysis, account analysis, and management reporting.
- Use advanced Excel functions to analyze data, reconcile accounts, and improve reporting processes.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in NetSuite and help ensure data integrity.
- Use Microsoft Access to review, organize, query, and analyze financial data as needed.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, controls, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Two or more years of general accounting experience.
- Prior experience using NetSuite is required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data analysis, and complex formulas.
- Experience preparing bank and general ledger reconciliations.
- Working knowledge of fixed-asset accounting and depreciation.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Access and SQL, including basic queries, tables, and data extraction.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with royalty calculations, reporting, and payment administration.
- Experience participating in month-end and year-end close processes.
- Experience improving or automating accounting and reporting workflows.
Work Environment
This position requires regular collaboration with accounting, finance, operations, and other internal teams. The Staff Accountant must be able to work independently while contributing effectively in a team-oriented environment.
This is a full-time position based at our Grand Rapids location on the northwest side. Training will take place in person at this location. Following the training period, the position is expected to transition to a hybrid work arrangement.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
