Job Opportunity:
Take ownership of complex Executive & Professional Lines claims in our Sydney-based Claims team, managing a diverse portfolio with a particular focus on Medical Malpractice and Healthcare risks, alongside Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers Liability, Cyber, Financial Institutions, Management Liability and Employment Practices Liability claims. You will drive matters from first notification through to resolution applying sound judgment, technical expertise to deliver timely, accurate and effective outcomes.
As a senior claims professional, you will make and clearly communicate coverage and reserving decisions, shape claim strategy, lead negotiations and manage external advisers. You will build trusted relationships with customers and brokers while bringing a practical, commercially aware approach to complex and sensitive matters.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end management of complex Executive & Professional Lines claims from first notification through to resolution, in line with BHSI Claims Service Standards.
- Analyze policy wording, coverage, liability and quantum to make timely, fair and well-reasoned decisions, and communicate outcomes clearly to customers, brokers and other stakeholders.
- Assess exposure, establish and maintain appropriate reserves, and report significant developments with clear rationale, accuracy and commercial discipline.
- Lead investigations, litigation, mediations, negotiations and resolution strategy, engaging and managing legal advisers, experts and other service providers where their expertise will improve outcomes.
- Build trusted customer and broker relationships through responsive, professional and transparent claims handling, particularly on complex, sensitive or high-severity matters.
- Partner with underwriting, actuarial, legal and operations teammates to share claims trends and insights, strengthen portfolio decisions and contribute to service, process and learning improvements.
Key Skills:
- Advanced technical claims judgment: apply strong coverage, reserving, investigation, negotiation and resolution capability across complex Executive & Professional Lines claims.
- Strategic and commercial thinking: evaluate legal, financial and reputational considerations to develop practical claim strategies and make balanced decisions.
- Customer and broker partnership: build trust through responsive service, confident advice and clear management of expectations.
- Clear communication and influence: translate complex facts, policy issues and legal advice into concise recommendations and communications for different audiences.
- Organization and execution: manage competing priorities and complex matters with ownership, accuracy, sound escalation and consistent follow-through.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Typically, five or more years of experience managing Executive & Professional Lines including Medical Malpractice, Healthcare or other complex financial lines claims, or equivalent demonstrated capability gained through insurance, legal practice or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience analysing complex facts and legal issues, determining coverage, setting reserves and developing claim strategies through negotiation, mediation, litigation or other resolution pathways. Relevant tertiary, legal, ANZIIF or insurance-related qualifications are desirable where they strengthen technical capability.
