Job Description:

Role Overview

The Fire Protection Engineer supports Fluence’s global BESS portfolio by ensuring fire protection, code compliance, permitting, and safety requirements are effectively integrated into product development and project delivery. Working across Engineering, Product, Sales, and Permitting teams, this role translates complex fire code requirements into practical technical solutions while driving continuous improvement and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret fire code requirements and develop compliant product designs, permitting strategies, and technical solutions.

Assess fire protection risks, resolve technical issues, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Develop and maintain code compliance documentation, including compliance matrices and design responses.

Identify and address code gaps, AHJ requirements, and jurisdiction-specific permitting challenges.

Deliver fire protection training to internal teams, customers, and emergency response personnel.

Support permitting reviews, code negotiations, customer inquiries, and cross-functional engineering activities.

Contribute to fire testing programs, certification efforts, industry code development, and emerging fire safety initiatives.

Stay informed on evolving regulations, technologies, and industry best practices.

Requirements

-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

-
10+ years of experience in fire protection engineering or a related field.

-
Experience in fire protection system design, code compliance, permitting, and CFD fire modeling.

-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex fire codes.

-
Experience working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and navigating varied regulatory environments.

-
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage complex technical projects.

-
Ability to travel regularly to project sites across Australia and the APAC region (approximately 30-50% travel).

Additional Requirements

Experience supporting large-scale fire, explosion, or battery testing programs.

Knowledge of BESS fire protection standards, international certifications, and industry codes.

Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring, or leadership within cross-functional teams.

Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to take ownership and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
