About the Role
Lantern UAS is seeking a Senior System Architect to lead the technical architecture of a counter-UAS (C-UAS) reference architecture program. You will work on the end-to-end system design (spanning sensors, command-and-control, and AI/ML processing) and translate government mission requirements into a modular, open, and extensible architecture that other programs can build on.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development of the system architecture for a multi-domain counter-UAS reference architecture, aligned to government standards and frameworks such as the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)
- Define system-level requirements, interfaces, and data flows across sensor, command-and-control (C2), and AI/ML subsystems
- Author and maintain architecture artifacts, including interface control documents (ICDs), system design documents (SDDs), and DoDAF/SysML-style views
- Serve as technical point of contact with program stakeholders on architecture decisions
- Guide integration of third-party sensors (radar, RF, EO/IR, acoustic) and effectors into a unified, standards-based architecture
- Design for modularity and future extensibility so the reference architecture can accommodate new sensors, effectors, and government programs over time
- Lead and support architecture trade studies and technical reviews
- Mentor engineering staff on systems architecture best practices and government documentation standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred)
- 10+ years of systems architecture experience, including at least 3 years supporting DoD or other government programs
- Demonstrated experience architecting complex, multi-sensor systems or command-and-control systems
- Working knowledge of Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles and open-architecture standards
- Experience producing architecture documentation such as ICDs, SDDs, and DoDAF/SysML views
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting directly to government customers
- U.S. citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance/suitability determination
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in counter-UAS, air defense, electronic warfare, or related sensor-to-effector systems
- Experience with SysML/UAF modeling tools such as Cameo or Rhapsody
- Familiarity with FACE, MOSA, or similar government open-architecture initiatives
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into sensor fusion or C2 pipelines
- Prior experience on SBIR, STTR, OTA, or similar government acquisition programs
Pay: $148,032.44 - $202,877.77 per year
