Academic Cardiologist with Expertise in Cardiac Imaging & Artificial Intelligence

Department of Medicine, McMaster University

Position Description

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Healthcare invite applications for an Academic Cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in multimodality cardiac imaging (cardiovascular CT and echocardiography) and an established record of accomplishment in artificial intelligence applied to cardiovascular imaging.

Research, Innovation & AI Scholarship

The successful candidate is expected to focus approximately 40% of their time on research developing, validating, and implementing AI algorithms and software for cardiovascular imaging. The candidate will have experience or formal training in AI and software development sufficient to lead an independent research program in this area. A key focus will be to develop and validate software tools (deep learning, statistical shape modelling, computational hemodynamics) for coronary CTA interpretation and TAVR CT procedural risk stratification. The candidate is expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at major scientific meetings, pursue external grant funding, and engage McMaster’s AI / data-science ecosystem.

Educational Responsibilities

The candidate will supervise cardiology fellows and residents and provide clinical and research mentorship in cardiac CT and clinical AI/computational research methods. The candidate is expected to collaborate with the McMaster Biodesign group in education of students and supervision of student projects. The candidate will contribute to divisional academic half-day, structural-imaging rounds, and curriculum delivery for the Cardiovascular CT related fellowship programs.

Clinical Responsibilities

The candidate’s clinical time will be spent on cardiac CT, general cardiology outpatient and inpatient cardiology service, and echocardiography. The candidate will be responsible for Independently reporting cardiovascular CT studies, transthoracic echocardiograms and transesophageal echocardiograms. The candidate will participate in the on-call rotation to provide general cardiology coverage across outpatient clinics, CCU, and inpatient consult service .

Required Qualifications

MD or equivalent. Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario. Subspecialty fellowship training in Cardiovascular CT with focus on coronary imaging and TAVR planning studies. Demonstrated independent track record in clinical AI and software development for cardiovascular imaging or intervention, evidenced by deployed applications, patents, or peer-reviewed publications.

This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Division of Cardiology and will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Faculty and Division.
