What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a seasoned Interior Architectural Lead to own the design and delivery of corporate workplace interiors at Tesla. This role is a player-coach role: you will personally design and lead workplace interiors and FF&E, run projects through every phase of delivery, and oversee a team that produces designs for corporate offices.
You will lead and design direct the work during all phases of design and development, then lead documentation, FF&E, and partner with Tesla’s internal construction team for the construction administration phase through close-out. Prospective candidates should have extensive experience designing, leading, and delivering high-performing workplace interiors for industry-leading organizations, and the operating management discipline to allocate team capacity, prioritize competing demands, and stay flexible as business needs change.
What You'll Do
-
Personally design direct, lead, and deliver corporate workplace interiors from concept through close-out, acting as Interior Design Architect depending on scope. Own all phases of delivery, programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding/procurement, construction administration, and close-out, including RFIs, submittals, and field decisions
-
Own FF&E strategy and execution for workplace projects, including programming, FF&E guidelines and standards, specifications, budgets, dealer/vendor coordination, procurement support, installation, and punch
-
Directly lead, mentor, and oversee a team of architects and designers producing workplace interiors for corporate offices. Set design quality, detailing, and documentation standards, and develop the team’s craft
-
Manage workload capacity, resource allocation, and a competing project portfolio. Sequence work, make clear tradeoffs against occupancy, budget, and schedule, and reset priorities as business needs change, including restacks, program changes, and accelerated timelines, without losing design intent or quality
-
Manage multiple stakeholders, executive sponsors, end users, Workplace, Facilities, Engineering, Construction Project Management, General Contractors, and FF&E dealers, keeping decisions, scope, and expectations aligned. Present status updates, progress reports, and design presentations to executive stakeholders and end customers
-
Create comprehensive design intent packages that a contractor can build and an installer can furnish, with detailing that holds up in the field
-
Develop creative solutions that protect design quality while saving cost and reducing schedule
What You'll Bring
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture with US Architecture licensure (NCIDQ or equivalent interior-design credential a plus), or equivalent experience
-
15+ years of professional experience designing, leading, and delivering corporate workplace interiors for industry-leading organizations, not only managing the work, but producing it. Workplace interiors in corporate office environments required; industrial, manufacturing, or campus amenity experience is a plus
-
Demonstrated FF&E experience: furniture programs, finish and material palettes, specifications, budgets, and installation coordination
-
10+ years leading a team of architects and/or interior designers who produce workplace / corporate office interiors
-
Proven ownership of all project phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration, plus experience with project cost estimating and schedule review
-
Experience managing workload capacity, resource allocation, and prioritization across a multi-project interiors portfolio, with the ability to operate in a fast-changing environment and keep a team productive when business needs shift
-
Strong stakeholder management across executives, end users, and cross-functional delivery partners, and expert proficiency in Revit and relevant 2D/3D modeling and visualization tools
