The WELL on the campus of Sac State is looking for a student to serve as the Group Fitness Student Supervisor II. The Group Fitness Student Supervisor II provides administrative and operational leadership for the program, with emphasis on staff records, communications, scheduling, reporting, instructor support, and class troubleshooting. The role works closely with professional staff and student employees to help maintain organized, consistent, and high-quality Group Fitness operations.

Conditions of Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript), or driver clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.

Prerequisites

Students working at the University Union or The WELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring), and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students.

Shifts available Monday-Saturday. Schedule varies.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).

Compensation

$18.40 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

- Must be a currently enrolled student who is eligible for student employment.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to maintain staff records, schedules, and spreadsheets accurately.

- Demonstrated leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with instructors, trainers, student supervisors, and professional staff.

Group Fitness instructor certification required only when assigned to teach classes; CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in Group Fitness, recreation, fitness, wellness, administration, or a related setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Maintain Group Fitness instructor certifications and staff rosters, helping ensure employee records remain current and organized.

- Create and distribute Group Fitness announcements and routine program communications.

- Maintain the Group Fitness report/spreadsheet and assist with monthly report preparation.

- Assist with all aspects of Group Fitness scheduling, including class coverage, staffing updates, and schedule changes.

- Assist with managing instructor substitutions and communicate coverage needs as appropriate.

- Assist with management of Group Fitness classes, including check-ins, instructor support, participant assistance, and troubleshooting.

- Assist with studio and equipment maintenance and troubleshoot class-related facility or equipment issues.

- Coordinate one to two Group Fitness special events each semester, including event concepts, design ideas, logistics, and on-site support; assist with additional special events as assigned.

- Participate in interviews for Group Fitness positions when available.

- Assist with Group Fitness equipment and supply inventory.

- Assist professional staff with training, developing, and motivating Group Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers.

- Assist with bi-annual Group Fitness staff meetings.

- Teach Group Fitness classes when qualified and assigned.

- Maintain accurate staff rosters, certification records, schedules, reports, and other Group Fitness administrative documents.

- Communicate schedule changes, announcements, staffing needs, and program updates clearly and in a timely manner.

Help identify operational issues and coordinate follow-up with professional staff related to studios, equipment, class coverage, and instructor needs.

Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions

Work is performed either in a gym or office environment or a combination of the two. Continuous contact with staff and patrons. Frequent contact with the campus community and the public.
