Nocturnist Responsibilities:
- Manage and care for patients during overnight hours
- Admit patients during overnight hours.
- Evaluate and diagnose patients with acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging studies as needed.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management and monitoring of patients.
- Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to provide updates on patient status and coordinate care.
- Supervise, oversee, and provide feedback for advance practitioners.
- Document patient care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, pharmacists, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes and hospital performance.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain competence and stay current with advances in medical knowledge and technology through continuing education.
Patient Assessment and Care:
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests, to formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Provide compassionate and evidence-based care to patients, ensuring their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.
Treatment Planning and Implementation:
- Develop and implement comprehensive care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team, tailoring interventions to meet individual patient needs.
- Prescribe and administer medications, therapies, and interventions, and monitor their effectiveness.
Patient Education and Advocacy:
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies to promote active participation in their healthcare journey.
- Serve as an advocate for patients, ensuring their voice is heard and their preferences are considered in the care planning process.
Collaborative Care Team Engagement:
- Work closely with physicians, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment plans, and discharge planning.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records, documenting assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and patient outcomes.
- Provide timely and clear reports to the healthcare team, facilitating seamless communication and continuity of care.
Qualifications:
- MD/DO with unrestricted medical license required
- Board Certification or board eligible in Internal Medicine/Family Medicine Required
- Extensive knowledge of the health and aging process
- Demonstrates practical interpersonal communication skills.
- Brings an innovative approach to work, can “think outside the box.”
- Takes a team approach in accomplishing treatment goals.
- Possesses strong clinical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in anticipating problems or adverse outcomes; takes appropriate corrective action.
